Dutasteride belongs to a class of medicines called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It works by reducing the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone involved in prostate enlargement and hair loss.
It is primarily used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), helping improve urinary flow and reducing the risk of urinary retention.
Dutasteride is also widely used to help slow hair loss in men by lowering scalp DHT levels.
