Pramipexole is a dopamine agonist used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and, at specific prescribed doses, moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome.
It works by stimulating dopamine receptors in the brain. This helps support dopamine activity involved in movement control and may reduce symptoms such as stiffness, tremors, and movement difficulties associated with Parkinson’s disease.
Pramipexole should be used only when prescribed by a healthcare professional. It may cause sleepiness, sudden sleep episodes, dizziness, low blood pressure, hallucinations, and impulse-control problems. Dosage may require gradual adjustment, particularly in patients with reduced kidney function. Do not stop treatment suddenly without medical advice.
