Metoprolol succinate is a selective beta-1 blocker used to treat high blood pressure, angina, and certain cases of heart failure. It helps reduce the heart’s workload and control heart rate.
It works by blocking beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, reducing the effects of adrenaline. This slows the heart rate, decreases cardiac workload, and may lower blood pressure. The extended-release formulation is designed to release the medicine gradually over time.
Metoprolol succinate extended-release should be used only as prescribed by a healthcare professional. It may cause fatigue, dizziness, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, and cold extremities. Do not stop treatment suddenly, because abrupt withdrawal may increase the risk of serious heart-related complications. Medical monitoring may be required.
